We heard that girls and women were using toilet roll holders, socks and kitchen roll, amongst other items, during their periods as they could not afford sanitary products. Girls were missing school and missing out on life as they struggled to meet the cost. We made a call to action and people responded with the utmost kindness. Bin bags full of towels, tampons and spare knickers arrived at our door and we started to place pretty baskets in community spaces where people could help themselves if they need it, without needing to ask. Discreet and dignified.
